Yesterday, we applied to the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover program. I want to track the progress of two OTTBs through the program, and I wanted Joanna (our assistant trainer, barn manager and generally awesome horsewoman) to take part. It’s my plan to acquire two horses in the next month or so, and then we’re going to post regular updates about their progress. Ideally, if we end up with one hunter and one jumper, that would be great, but it’s so important to make sure that horses are happy in their jobs, so we’ll do whatever the horses need.

Applications for the Makeover are due January 31st. They are accepting 500 trainers, and they are looking for trainers that have a proven track record with OTTBs (which we do) and proficiency at our chosen discipline (which we do). They are also looking at geographical representation, discipline representation, as well as a spread between pro, amateur, and juniors. So there’s always a chance we won’t get in… We will be notified mid-February of whether we’ve been accepted. Keep your fingers crossed!
