Announcing Clairvaux’s 2022 Summer Horse Camp!

For riders 8 to 15 years old, Monday through Friday, 8:30am-3pm. We will also be offering aftercare this year from 3 to 5pm. 

Each week will have a different theme, so riders can have fun participating in multiple weeks, learning lots of things about horse-related topics. We will have additional activities during each session, including crafts and games.

Here are the dates and the themes for each week:

Week 1: June 6-10* – First-Rate Show Prep, Fitness and Conditioning Camp: Learn how horses are readied for the show ring, including bathing, mane pulling, and body clipping. This is a hands-on program. Campers will learn how to properly longe horses, as well as practice the steps necessary for proper conditioning. Riding will take place both in and out of the arena. Week 2: June 13-17* – College Riding and Horse-Related Careers Camp: Campers will learn ways to participate in riding during college, including IHSA and NCAA programs. We’ll also have daily visits from our horse health professionals, like vets, farriers, massage therapists and saddle fitters. Campers will learn and practice specific components of IHSA and NCAA show riding each day. If your child is hoping to continue their riding passion in college and beyond, this is the program for them!

The 1st two camps are held prior to the end of the Loudoun County Schools’ year, so particularly suited to those in private school or homeschooled. We are limiting the number of campers these two weeks, as we roll into summer.

Week 3: June 20-24 – Cowboy & Cowgirl Camp: Learn all about farm life and daily horse care. Campers will get to help with day-to-day activities around the farm, and will learn about safety, nutrition and how to properly exercise our equine friends. We’ll also have some other animals visiting us during the week to love on and learn about. In addition, campers will get a chance to play some games typically associated with western riding, like barrels and pole bending.

Week 4: June 27-July 1 – Trail and Game Camp: Our most popular camp! It’s a great chance to blow off some steam and have fun on horseback! Whether super competitive, or wanting to just relax while riding outside the ring, there’s something for everyone during this exciting and fun-filled week!

Week 5: July 4-8 – Show Camp: Learn about showing and how the Hunter/Jumper discipline works. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how a real horse show works from course design and judging, to jump crew and gate keeping. *Show on Friday. Class fees for showing are additional.

Week 6: July 11-15 – First-Rate Show Prep, Fitness and Conditioning Camp: Learn how horses are readied for the show ring, including bathing, mane pulling, and body clipping. Week 7: July 18-22 – Arts and Performance Camp: Calling all creative types! This fun-filled week will have crafts each day, including pony painting and unique items to bring home. In addition, riders will learn the art and choreography of Quadrille, an artistic group ride set to music. Friday will include the final performance which will be recorded and shared with riders’ families. All levels welcome!

Week 8: July 25-29 – Mini-EAP Camp: Get a taste of the US Hunter/Jumper Association’s Emerging Athletes Program! This camp covers both riding and horsemanship and helps riders get acquainted with this hugely successful national training and talent-search program. **Some experience necessary. Not appropriate for beginner riders.

Week 9: August 1-5 – Show Camp: Learn about showing and how the Hunter/Jumper discipline works. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how a real horse show works from course design and judging, to jump crew and gate keeping. *Show on Friday. Class fees for showing are additional.

Week 10: August 8-12 – Trail and Game Camp: We’re offering a second week of this popular camp! It’s a great chance to blow off some steam and have fun on horseback! Whether super competitive, or wanting to just relax while riding outside the ring, there’s something for everyone during this exciting and fun-filled week!

Cost for each week is $525. All campers receive a T-shirt. Aftercare is available for $150 per week.
